POPUP's driving you NUTS?
Are you getting annoyed with all the pop-ups that appear every time you decide to surf the internet? If so, a small company in Seattle Washington distributes a piece of software called "Pop-Up Stopper" that can help eliminate them. The company is Panicware incorporated, and can be found at www.panicware.com. Panicware offers both a free version of their "Pop-Up Stopper" as well as a feature enhanced version. To download the free version, go to www.panicware.com/product_pshelp.html and follow
the download and installation instructions. Although Sterling does not officially support this product, we do use it internally.

Virus Alert Notification: Win32.Yaha.K
Alias: I-Worm.Lentin.I, W32/Yaha.k, W32/Yaha.k, W32.Yaha.K@mm, W32/Yaha.M-mm

CHARACTERISTICS

Win32.Yaha.K is a worm designed to spread via the e-mail system, by connecting directly to an SMTP server. The worm contains two payloads: It kills running processes including many anti-virus applications and performs a denial of service (DoS) attack on a particular Pakistani server.  For more information about Win32.Yaha.K worm click here.

Non-profit organizations Win Big.
Sterling has always aligned itself very closely with charitable organizations in an effort to assist them in their ministries and to make a difference in our area.  Two new programs have been created that focus on these organizations, both of which offer substantial benefits to not only the organization itself, but also to the constituents that support the organization.  Give the sales line a call and ask about the Win-Win program for non-profits.  503-885-8908 x230 .
@sterling.net clients soon to receive free SPAM and VIRUS filtering.
In the next couple weeks we will complete the implementation of the SPAM and VIRUS filtering system on the @sterling.net and @sterlink.net domains.  This means that all clients with an email address at either of these domains will receive SPAM and VIRUS filtered email automatically.  SPAM email that has pornographic content will be automatically deleted, the rest will arrive with the subject edited and the word "[SPAM]" inserted at the beginning of the line.  You can then have your email software (Outlook Express, etc...) automatically delete these emails or sort them to a subfolder for later review.  VIRUS infected emails will be automatically deleted.  More details to follow soon...
Sterling offers firewall service for DSL users.

No changes are required on your side, all the work is done at the main backbone at Sterling.

If you have an "Always-On" or DSL connection, call the sales line at 503-885-8908 x230 and speak to an associate about the new firewall service.

Business
Tip of the Month

Did you know that 80% of your customers purchase from you because of the trust and confidence they have in the person representing your company and not the features or functionality of your products and services, so says the Stanford Research Institute.

So if trust and confidence are so important, what are your sales and service representatives doing to build this bond among your customers and prospects? Today, many sales people are investing as much time increasing their relationship service and selling skills as they are in gaining more product knowledge. Learning one's natural selling style, and learning how to adapt it to the various buying styles of different customers and prospects is key to building "bonding" relationships. Statistically, a sales or service representative can increase their effectiveness with customers and prospects by as much as 75% by learning and utilizing a selling and buying personality profiling methodology.

Phillip Silver, President of Reference Systems, says this about using a personality profiling methodology, "Throughout my career, I have used many sales techniques and tools to increase sales. I have found personality profiling to be very effective for us and our company. Within a week of using the knowledge I gained from the methodology, I closed an order worth over $80,000. Prior to knowing how to adapt my selling style to my prospect's buying style, prospects often did not return my calls. Today that is different“

A by-product of learning how to relate better to people of different temperaments is the positive team building effect it can have on a work group, committee, management or project team, even a Board of Directors. Understanding ones' self better, and learning more about those they work with, can have a tremendous impact on morale and company chemistry. People who learn about personality profiling quickly discover there is no right or wrong style, it's simply that everyone is different. It takes all personality styles to run a business. We simply need to accept and respect each other for our natural talents and learn what each of us needs to be more effective.
