Technical Update: SPAM & VIRUS filters @sterling.net

In our ongoing effort to provide best-in class service, Sterling is now ready to roll out it's latest technical developments. These developments redefine “Clean access to the Internet".  Over the past eight weeks, the technical staff has been thoroughly testing our new SPAM (junk mail) and VIRUS email filters.  They are now ready for broad distribution and the best news of all... Sterling is going to pick up the tab. These features will be added starting February 1st, 2003 and you will see no change in your billing.

In a nutshell, all of the mail destined for the @sterling.net and @sterlink.net email customers will be pre-scrubbed for both SPAM and Viruses before it lands in the mailbox. There is no need to subscribe to this service, it will be automatically implemented and there are no changes required on the customer side.

Virus Filtering:

The Virus filtering service will scan all incoming email for known viruses.  If a virus is detected, the infected email will be rejected and a notification will be sent to the sender informing them of the infected email.

For more information on the Virus scanning service, please see our website FAQ at: http://www.sterling.net/services_email_evfs_faq.asp.

Spam Filtering:

The SPAM filtering service will scan incoming email to determine if it is unsolicited SPAM mail.  If the email is determined to be SPAM, the subject line will be edited and the word “[SPAM]” in will be inserted at the beginning of the line.  The mail will then be delivered as normal.  Note: SPAM email containing pornographic content will be returned back to the original sender.

Sterling also offers the option to delete SPAM email for accounts utilized by young adults. If you would like to enable this option, please send a request to support@sterling.net requesting the "SPAM Deletion" option.  Please include the email addresses you would like affected.

For more information on our SPAM filtering service, please see our website FAQ at: http://www.sterling.net/services_email_sfs_faq.asp.

If you have any questions on any of these services, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@sterling.net.

Reminder:  refer a friend... for each new customer you send to Sterling, you will receive a free months service.  How's that for getting something for almost nothing?

Thank you for your continued patronage, it is a pleasure to serve you.
